Restricting access of an FTP User to a Specific Directory
You can choose to restrict a FTP Users access to a
specific directory. Once you define such a restriction then the user will
directly land into this particular directory on logging into the server via FTP.
The user will not be able to go to the parent directory. Thus, you can create a
configuration which ensures that a particular FTP User can make modifications
only to a particular section of your website. To create such a restriction on an
existing user follow these steps:
- Go to the Login page of the Manage Site
Interface i.e.
http://icannbudgetDOTorg/managesite
- Login using the "Default User's" Username and
Password. You can also use any other FTP User's details who has been given
System Admin rights.
- Click on the "FTP User Manager" icon
- Click on the applicable "Modify FTP User"
button. This is the first button in the "Action" column and is located in the
same row as the username whose access you want to restrict to a particular
directory
- Select the "Home Directory" for this FTP User.
The user will automatically be chrooted to this directory i.e. his access will
be restricted to this directory and all its sub-directories. This user will
not be able to access any files in a parent directory. The "Home Directory"
has to exist at the time of adding the user. Note that you have to enter the
path after /domains/wwwDOTicannbudgetDOTorg/ in the "Home Directory" text box.
For example, suppose you want the FTP User to be chrooted to /domains/wwwDOTicannbudgetDOTorg/web/someproj
then you need to type "web/someproj" in the textbox and not the preceding
/domains/wwwDOTicannbudgetDOTorg/
- Click on the "Submit" button
